In partnership with OTF’s Rapid Response Fund, we worked with a trusted network of community-led and grassroot communication initiatives.

After facing device seizures, extended equipment retention, digital security breaches, and direct threats with methods including digital surveillance, monitoring of communications and intimidation. With the mission to counter surveillance and protect digital rights from sophisticated digital attacks targeting them as human rights defenders we did the following activities:

a. Digital Security Support:

Two sessions on Digital Security. Topics covered include securing devices, implementing best security practices to enhance device protection, configuring secure settings, device cleanup, and identifying malicious behaviors. The material about the session on threat modeling and mitigation of potential attacks is here, and the session on protection for devices and accounts can be found here.

b. Forensic analysis of (potentially) compromised mobile phones of 10 individuals at-risk:

We carried out forensic analysis on 10 mobile devices belonging to at-risk individuals who have been targeted by surveillance due to their activism against state repression. We prioritized ethical practices in all forensic analysis, ensuring consent, confidentiality and respectful delivery of findings.
